Naples Pier Joe Fitzpatrick Detailed itinerary: Friday evening: 6:30 pm. Learn to shoot in manual and really, really understand it. As with all our classes, Peggy simplifies the technical aspects of photography to make it easier to learn and understand. We’ll have an hour and a half class, then hop in the van with our tripods to take sunset pictures of the famous Naples pier.

Saturday morning it’s up and out! Depending on the weather, we’ll take a private boat trip to photograph the Cape Romano dome homes. The dome homes were built in the 1980s and are slowly being washed out to sea. We’ll have a little beach time on this mostly deserted island to photograph, swim, relax and have a picnic. DOME HOMES Relaxation break 1-3 pm. Take a nap, lay out by the pool or go shopping.

3:00 pm. Photoshop class at Understand Photography studio. Hop in the van for the 2 minute drive to the studio. Bring your laptop and we’ll work on our pictures. You’ll learn about layers, layer masks, blending modes, textures and more. Everything is step by step so amatuer or advanced Photoshop users can keep up.

5:30-6pm. Dinner (included).

7:15 pm. Sunset portraits. We’ll have a model so we can learn and practice on and off camera flash. Learn to balance your flash with the background for beautiful sunset portraits. IMG_8268

Old Naples Parent HouseNaples Women’s Photography Weekend - Stuff You’ll Want to Know

Where will we stay? We stay at an adorable Airbnb. Your reservation will be taken care of by Understand Photography. This has saved us money so we are able to limit the group to only three.

How will we get around?
We will take the Understand Photography minivan, walk or take a boat to our photo locations.

What will we be photographing?
This photo adventure encompasses architecture, cityscapes, street life and beach scenes.

What skill level is required?
This photo adventure is geared to photographers of all skill levels. Our very small group allows every adventurer from beginner to advanced proceed at her own pace. We start this photo retreat with a basic exposure class - a refresher for some and a beginner class for others.

What will I learn during the Photo Adventure?
At every step of your Photo Adventure, Peggy will be at your side, sharing her techniques. Our ratio of a maximum of 3 photographers per leader assures that you will receive personal attention and allow you to learn at your own pace.
We will cover:
Landscape photography - evening and daytime
Night photography and streaking lights.
On and off camera flash
Exposure bracketing for HDR
Subject isolation, composition, filters and more.
Advanced techniques tailored to your level of knowledge.
HDR editing
Photoshop or Elements - Layers, Textures and Blending Modes

What equipment should I bring?
This Photo Retreat encompasses a wide range of subject matter. We suggest:
DSLR camera or advance compact that can shoot in manual.
Ideally, lenses to provide the equivalent coverage of full frame lenses from 24mm to 300 mm or longer.
For “crop” DSLRs, this means lenses in the range of 17mm to 200mm or longer.
A circular polarizer (also known as a CPL filter) if you own one.
Neutral Density filter(s) if you have one. If you have a 2+ or more stop ND filter, we can do silky water at our sunset pier photoshoot. If you don’t have filters, they are not necessary. Just fun!
Flash if you have one. If not, your pop up flash will do.
Tripod - lightweight - you’ll have to carry your own equipment.
Remote shutter release. Useful, but your camera’s timer will suffice in a pinch.
Memory cards - bring LOTS!
Batteries - you will need spares.
Chargers for everything
Laptop with Photoshop or PS Elements and Photomatix installed.

You can get 30 day trial version of Photoshop or PS Elements here: http://www.adobe.com/downloads.html
You can get a 30 day trial version of Photomatix here: http://www.plimus.com/jsp/redirect.jsp?contractId=2308881&referrer=1047734 Photomatix Essential is fine for our uses.

Should you try Photoshop or Elements? If you are not familiar with either, I suggest PS Elements. It’s much more user friendly. It’s also inexpensive compared to regular Photoshop.
