Veteran photographer Charlie McDonald is back to teach a workshop on Basic Studio Lighting. If you’ve come to one of our Studio Model Shoots, you’ve gotten a taste for using studio lights. If you hope to photograph corporate headshots, senior high school students, children or models, you’ll want to learn the basics of studio lighting.

In this hands-on class you’ll learn how to set up and measure the lights for the effects you hope to achieve.

  • Studio Lights - Go over the parts of the studio light and what each button/lever means.

  • Light meter - how to use. What type to buy for your specific needs. Should you use your in camera meter?

  • We’ll start with a single light setup and add to it.

  • Simple posing techniques will also be introduced in this class.

Charlie will help take the fear out of studio lighting. You’ll leave with beautiful portfolio images and a newly found confidence to try your hand at studio lighting. We’ll give you suggestions for starter lighting kits as well.

  • Please bring your DSLR camera with a standard hotshoe (or adapter if you have a Sony) as you will have a chance to practice your new skills.
