The dome homes were built in the 1980s and are slowly being washed out to sea. We lost two of the six during hurricane Irma! Who knows if it will make it through this hurricane season?
Please review the refund policy before you register. There are no refunds or transfers within two weeks of this outing unless it’s cancelled. You may, however, send someone in your place.
I never get tired of seeing this historic and beautiful abandoned home that is being swallowed up by the sea.
We are hiring a private boat to take us through dolphin-filled waters to photograph the Dome Homes. Early registration is only $129 per person but please budget at least $10 for a tip for the captain as well. Our captain goes out of his way to please his customers! We’ve worked with him for many years and it’s always a great experience!
It’s about a 30 minute boat trip each way so we’ll have plenty of time to photograph the Dome Homes from several angles. We are sure to see and photograph dolphins on our way to or from the Dome Homes too! If there is time, we’ll stop at our favorite island for a few beach landscape photographs.
Bring whatever camera you have - even a cell phone camera! If you have a more professional camera; bring a wide to medium lens - a 24-70 on a full frame or 18-55 mm on a crop frame camera will be perfect. If you have a CPL (circular polarizer lens), bring that as well. You won’t need a tripod. Please don’t bring a ton of equipment or we’ll be tripping over it on the boat.
Wear a hat and bring a towel just in case.
Dress in layers. It may be hot or it may be cold or both!
Fine Print: We cannot control the weather. Obviously if it is pouring or lightning, we’ll cancel and refund your money. But if it’s just raining slightly or if the forecast shows afternoon showers, we are still going to go. If the water is a bit choppy, you’ll need a fast shutter speed and some sea sickness pills!
